Which products are concerned by declarations to the Battery and Accumulator Register?

In accordance with Decree No. 2009-1139 of 22 September 2009, all batteries are concerned, regardless of the electrochemical couple used, size, mass, or end use. Products commonly called "batteries" are included in this definition.

Batteries and accumulators integrated in electrical and electronic equipment are also concerned.

The nature of batteries and accumulators placed on the market is defined by electrochemical couple:

  • for the button cells : alkaline, zinc air, silver, lithium, or other button cells;
  • for the accumulators: lead, nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium, or other accumulators.

Excluded from the scope of the legislation are:

  • B&A used in equipment related to the protection of the essential security interests of Member States, arms, munitions and war material, with the exception of products that are not exclusively intended for military purposes (e.g., PC, mobile phone, etc.).
  • Batteries and accumulators used in equipment designed to be sent into space are also excluded.
